We all have jobs we hate doing in business and in life. But no matter how ggggrrrrr you get at that job. No matter how much you loathe it, it has still got to be done.
The trick is to find a way of wanting to do the job. Mary Poppins had the right idea.
Perfect example is me and ironing;
My friend thinks I'm mad (okay, admittedly not just for this) because I said the other day "I love ironing." When the truth is I've come to love ironing, but when I think back 12 years, I hated ironing. With a passion!
So what changed?
Well, I got my head around the job.
I accepted that no amount of hating it and stressing about it would get it done.......unless I wanted to become a naturalist it had to be done, so I might as well find a way to enjoy doing it.
Think about it, if you enjoy doing something the time goes faster and it feels easier. If you hate doing something, the time goes slower and it feels like its taking forever.
So it comes down to a matter of choice.
And I chose to find a way to enjoy the task.
When my kids were little I would set them up in a game, get the music on and I'd stand there ironing, singing and dancing, while watching my children play. So for me now I have happy positive experiences of completing this task and that in turn empowers me and motivates me to want to do it again.
And this technique works everywhere.
I used to hate invoicing. Ok so I outsource a lot of it now, but some of it I have to do. So now I've created a positive thought about the task and I started that process by thinking what the end result would be and obviously for invoicing, its money. And I thought of all the great things me and my family could do with that money. And that powered me up instantly!
REMEMBER;
Its got to be done.
You've got to do it (There are plenty of jobs you can outsource, but there are some only you can do!)
Its your viewpoint that you can control.
So its your choice?
Find the joy in any task and create positivity, increased productivity and motivation to get on.
OR
Have a good old grumble, be in a foul mood in a task that's taking all day.
I know what I chose.
Good luck!
